The Czech national ice hockey team of the men's national ice hockey combined team of the Czech Republic and one of the best hockey teams in the world. After the 2017 World Championships, she is ranked 6th in the IIHF world rankings . The women's national team is in 8th place in the world rankings and narrowly missed qualifying for the 2015 World Cup in three qualifying games in Yokohama against Japan (0: 2, 2: 0, 1: 2).
The national ice hockey teams of the Czech Republic are subordinate to the Czech Ice Hockey Federation and emerged from the teams of Czechoslovakia , whose starting positions they were allowed to take over after the division in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993. The first game of the Czech men's selection took place on February 11, 1993 in Stockholm , when they defeated the Russian team 6-1.
The Czech men became Olympic champions in 1998 and from 1999 to 2001 they won the world championship three times in a row. In 2004, after three medal-free years, Ivan Hlinka was reappointed national coach to lead the team to the World Cup of Hockey 2004 and to regain the world championship title. After his fatal traffic accident, Vladimír Růžička was appointed as the new coach, who "only" reached the semi-finals in the World Cup , but was able to secure the win of the world title again in the final against Canada in 2005 . A year later , the national team won the silver medal under head coach Alois Hadamczik .
After the disappointing fifth place in the men's ice hockey world championship in 2008 , Hadamczik resigned and a short time later Vladimír Růžička was introduced as the new coach, who remained coach of HC Slavia Prague at the same time.
In 2010 Růžička announced that he would resign as national coach after the World Cup of the same year, whereupon the Czech Ice Hockey Federation determined Alois Hadamczik as his successor. Between 2014 and 2015 Růžička was again the coach of the national team. Then Vladimír Vůjtek took over this office.
