Vladimír Bednář

Vladimír Bednář (born October 1, 1948 in Beroun , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czechoslovak ice hockey player . For many years he played with the TJ Plzeň and the Czechoslovak national team in the position of defender .

Career

Vladimír Bednář began his career in the offspring of TJ Plzeň and stayed with this club until 1982. An exception was the time of his army service, which he spent with Dukla Jihlava . With Jihlava he won two Czechoslovak championship titles in 1968 and 1969 . In total, he scored 19 goals in 407 season games in the first Czechoslovak division. In 1982 he received permission to move to other Western European countries because of his services. He spent the 1982/83 season with Stjernen in the Norwegian first division before returning to the ČSSR and finally ending his career in 1986.

Bednář had great success in international championships. With the Czechoslovak men's selection , he won one medal at the Winter Olympics and three medals at world championships . His first appointment to the national team was for the ice hockey world championship in 1969 , where the ČSSR team won the bronze medal. Both 1970 (winning the bronze medal) and 1972 further participation in world championships followed, where he became world champion in 1972. In the same year he was also appointed to the squad for the 1972 Winter Olympics and won the bronze medal. In the national shirt Bednář scored 3 goals in 69 international matches for Czechoslovakia.

In the 2006/07 season he was head coach of the Czech U20 team and took part in the 2007 Junior Ice Hockey World Championship .

In 2016, Vladimír Bednář was inducted into the Czech Ice Hockey Hall of Fame .
