The GET-ligaen (formerly: Hovedserien , 1. divisjon , Eliteserien , UPC-ligaen ) is the highest professional league in Norwegian ice hockey . The current master is Frisk Asker (2019).

history

The league was founded in 1934 under the name Hovedserien . The league kept this name until the war-related cessation of gaming operations in 1940. When gaming operations resumed in 1945, the league changed its name to 1. divisjon (German: First Division ). It carried this name until 1990, when it was completely reorganized and renamed Eliteserien . In 2004, the Norwegian cable television company UPC became the main sponsor of the Elite Series, which resulted in the league being renamed UPC-ligaen . Since UPC changed its name to GET in 2006, the league was renamed to its current name.

mode

In the 2009/10 season ten teams played in the GET league, or nine after the bankruptcy of IK Comet, most of them from southeast Norway. Initially, these teams play 44 league games, the eight best teams after the regular season qualify for the play-offs . The two last placed meet in a promotion and relegation round on the first two placed in the second division, today's 1st divisjon . The winners of these games will play in the GET league the following season.
