The 2000/01 season was the 62nd season of the Eliteserien , the highest Norwegian ice hockey division . Champion became Vålerenga Ishockey for the 21st time in the club's history .

In the main round, each of the ten teams played a total of 42 games. The four best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played out. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
