The 1984/85 season was the 46th season of the 1st divisjon , the highest Norwegian ice hockey division . Champion was for the 13th time in the club's history Vålerenga Ishockey . Strindheim IL rose to the second division.

In the main round, each of the ten teams played a total of 18 games. The six best-placed teams qualified for the intermediate round, the four best-placed teams in turn qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played off. The four last placed in the main round had to compete in the Kvalserien against the two first placed in the second division to avoid relegation. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
