The 1998/99 season was the 60th season of the Eliteserien , the highest Norwegian ice hockey division . Champion was Vålerenga Ishockey for the 20th time in the club's history . Furuset IF rose to the second division.

mode

In the main round, each of the ten teams played a total of 44 games. The four best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played out. The penultimate of the main round had to compete in the relegation against the runner-up in the second division, while the last place in the main round was relegated directly to the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
