The 1991/92 season was the 53rd season of the Eliteserien , the highest Norwegian ice hockey division . Champion was Vålerenga Ishockey for the 17th time in the club's history . Frisk Asker and Hasle-Løren Idrettslag relegated to the second division.

In the green series, each of the ten teams played a total of 18 games. The eight best-placed teams qualified for the Elite Series, while the last two were relegated to the second division. The six best-placed teams in the Elite Series qualified for the playoff intermediate round, in which the champions were played off. The playoffs were initially played in two groups of three teams each. The top two in each group qualified for the playoff semifinals. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
