The 2010/11 season was the 72nd edition of the Norwegian ice hockey league and the fifth under the name GET-ligaen . The defending champions were the Stavanger Oilers , who lost to the Sparta Warriors from Sarpsborg in the final .

Participant field and mode

After the previous season, the field of participants was expanded to include Rosenborg IK , who had risen from the second-class 1st division , with ten clubs now taking part in the championship.

A basic round and playoffs were played. In the preliminary round, the clubs each played five times against each other, making a total of forty-five games for each team. The top eight qualified for the playoffs. These were held as quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals in the form of best-of-seven series.

    Playoffs

The matches in the playoff series were determined through a restricted voting process. The best placed in the regular season was allowed to choose his quarter-final opponent from the clubs in seventh and eighth. The runner-up between the remaining team and the sixth place, etc. This procedure was also used in the semi-finals.

    Quarter finals

As expected, the two favorites Sparta and Stavanger prevailed against their rivals in the quarterfinals. Somewhat surprisingly, however, Vålerenga and Storhamar had to admit defeat to their opponents. Storhamar in particular broke in after a 9-1 win in the first game and then lost the remaining four games in a row.

    Semifinals

The two favorites also won their games in the semi-finals. Although Sparta lost the second game on foreign ice, they were then able to achieve three wins. The Oilers as defending champion had to give up two games, albeit just under, lost.

    final

After the first two games had been clear home wins, Sparta made the turn in the series in game number four, when on foreign ice with a 3-0 win, the intermediate result in the series could be increased to 3-1. In the all-important game, goalkeeper Phil Osaer succeeded again in a shutout, which fixed the third championship title for the Warriors. This shutout was also the sixth clean sheet victory for Osaer in the fourteenth playoff game.
