Jonas Elofsson (born January 31, 1979 in Ulricehamn ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played for Färjestad BK and Leksands IF in Elitserien during his active career .
Career
Jonas Elofsson gained his first professional experience in the course of the 1996/97 season , in which he was on the ice in eight Elitserien for Färjestad BK and won the Swedish championship with the team at the end of the season for the first time in his career . In the following season the title was successfully defended. During this time, the defender was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1997 in the fourth round at position 94 by the Edmonton Oilers , for which he never ran. On March 20, 1999, the Oilers gave his rights together with Dean McAmmond and Boris Mironow to the Chicago Blackhawks , who sent Ethan Moreau , Christian Laflamme , Chad Kilger and Daniel Cleary to Edmonton. Elofsson initially stayed with Färjestad BK and later decided to transfer to the Finnish SM-liiga to Turun Palloseura , where the Swede started the 2000/01 season .
After only ten pointless games in the SM-liiga, he was drawn back to Sweden that same season, when Elofsson signed a contract with HV71 . For the following season he was hired by the Swedish second division club Leksands IF , with whom the promotion to the Elitserien succeeded in 2002. After two seasons in the Swedish Elitserien, however, the league was missed in the Kvalserien . The 2004/05 season he spent at Rouen Hockey Elite 76 from the French Ligue Magnus and won the Coupe de France with them . It was followed by two seasons again with the Swedish second division Leksands IF, before Elofsson ended his career with the Sparta Warriors from the GET-leagues from 2008 to 2012 . In the season 2008/09 Elofsson was with 18 goals and 48 points in 45 games of the regular season the highest point defender in the GET leagues. With the Warriors he won the third Norwegian championship in the club's history in the 2010/11 season . After the Swede initially announced his retirement in May 2011, he returned to the ice for 17 games wearing the Sparta Warriors jersey in the course of the following season before his contract with the Norwegian club expired at the end of the 2011/12 season.
International
For Sweden Elofsson took part in the U18 European Junior Championships in 1997 and the Junior World Championships in 1997 and 1998 . The defensive player completed his most successful tournament at the U18 European Junior Championship in 1997, when Elofsson won the silver medal with the Swedish selection and was named the best defender of the tournament. In his two participations in the Junior World Championships in 1997 and 1998, however, he remained without a medal.
