Dean W. McAmmond (born June 15, 1973 in Grande Cache , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 1042 games for the Chicago Blackhawks , Edmonton Oilers , Philadelphia Flyers , Calgary Flames , Colorado Avalanche , St. Louis Blues , Ottawa Senators , New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils played on the left winger position in the National Hockey League . McAmmond celebrated his greatest career success in the jersey of the Canadian national team by winning the gold medal at the Junior World Championship in 1993 and the silver medal at the World Championship in 1996 .
Career
McAmmond played during his junior years with the Prince Albert Raiders in the Canadian Junior League Western Hockey League before he was selected in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft as 22nd in the first round by the Chicago Blackhawks . After some NHL appearances in the 1991/92 season with the Blackhawks, he returned to the WHL and moved there during the season to the Swift Current Broncos , with whom he won the President's Cup in 1993 , the championship trophy of the WHL. In the same year he won the gold medal at the Junior World Championships with the Canadian U20 national team .
In exchange, he and Igor Kravchuk were given to the Edmonton Oilers , who received Joe Murphy in return . They initially used him in their AHL farm team, the Cape Breton Oilers . In the 1995/96 season he made the final breakthrough and he reached the 50-point mark for the first time in the 1997/98 season .
In a seven-player swap deal, he returned to the Chicago Blackhawks shortly before the end of the 1998/99 season . His next season was the Philadelphia Flyers , with whom he played the end of the 2000/01 season . It followed the entire 2001/02 season with the Calgary Flames before playing for a year with the Colorado Avalanche . For the 2003/04 season he was back in Calgary. With the Flames he reached the Stanley Cup finals, which were subject to the Tampa Bay Lightning there . He spent the 2004/05 strike season in the AHL with the Albany River Rats .
For the 2005/06 season he ran in the NHL in the jersey of the St. Louis Blues . With the Ottawa Senators he reached the Stanley Cup Finals again in the 2006/07 season . But despite a strong personal performance, the nimble left winger, who was considered the fastest skater of the Senators, could not prevent the defeat against the Anaheim Ducks . In February 2009 he was transferred to the New York Islanders , for whom McAmmond played until the end of the season. After some time without a club, he signed a contract with the New Jersey Devils in November 2009 , which signed him for the 2009/10 season . Although he received a lot of ice age there as a regular player, his contract was not extended afterwards.
