The Notre-Dame de Bethléem (Our Lady of Bethlehem) chapel in Bras , a parish in the Var department in the French region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur , was built in the 13th century and was formerly part of a commander of the Knights Templar . In 1957, the chapel was as a protected monument in the list of Monuments historiques added. It is privately owned.

architecture

The chapel faces east, has one nave and is divided into two bays . In the east there is a small, slightly recessed apse on a semicircular floor plan, which is covered with a semi-dome. The interior of the chapel is illuminated through a narrow, slit-like opening in the apse wall and an oculus in the south wall. At the equinox , the rays of light from both openings hit the altar. On the west wall there is an opening that is now walled up. Here there was formerly a gallery that was reserved for the Commander .

The chapel is covered with rough stone slabs. The east wall of the nave is crowned by a bell gable, which is broken through by two large, arched openings.

The entrance is on the north side. The portal is framed by a round arch with finely crafted vaulted stones.
