The 1971/72 season was the 33rd season of the 1st divisjon , the highest Norwegian ice hockey division . Hasle-Løren Idrettslag became champion for the first time in the club's history . Furuset IF rose to the second division.

In the main round, each of the eight teams played a total of 14 games. The four best-placed teams qualified for the final round, whose first-placed champions became. The other four teams had to compete in the relegation round, the last-placed team relegated to the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
