Grüner IL is a Norwegian sports club founded in 1952 from Grünerløkka , a district of Oslo that is best known for its ice hockey department . The men's team has played in the GET league since 2019 and plays its home games in the Grünerhallen .

history

The Grüner IL was created on October 14, 1952 through the merger of the sports clubs SK Strong , Ball and Skiklubben av 1914 and SK Spero . Grüner himself gives its founding date, however, as 1914, the founding date of B14, the oldest of the three merger associations. Especially in the 1960s and 1970s, the ice hockey department of Grüner IL played regularly in the highest Norwegian league . After the merger with Hugin, the club played as Grüner / Hugin from 1969 to 1974, before returning to the old name Grüner IL. The team last played in the 1976/77 season in the top Norwegian league. In the 2007/08 season , the team, which now started in the second class 1. divisjon , only just failed to rise in the relegation.

The women's ice hockey team of Grüner IL also plays in the second Norwegian division in the 2011/12 season.

In addition to an ice hockey department, the Grüner IL also operates a football and handball department.
