Raimund-Ekkehard Walter

Raimund-Ekkehard Walter (born December 30, 1939 in Sonneberg ) is a German lawyer and legal librarian .

Life

Raimund-Ekkehard Walter was born as the son of the district court director Raimund Walter (1910–1997) and his wife Hildegard Walter (1913–2008) in Sonneberg (Thuringia). He was the first of six children. After moving from Thuringia to the Ruhr area (1949), he passed the Abitur at the Goethe School New Language High School in Essen in 1959 . Then he did his military service . Studying law took him to Munich and Marburg . The first state legal examination took place in 1964, the doctorate to Dr. jur. 1971, both in Marburg. This was followed by training as a senior library service in Bochum and Cologne . From 1972 he worked at the State Library of Prussian Cultural Heritage , from 1978 as library director. He was the head of the legal department and the special collection area law of the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the State Library. Since 1978 he has also worked as a training manager. From 1982–1997 he held a teaching position for librarians at the Institute for Library Science at the Free University / Humboldt University in Berlin .

Raimund-Ekkehard Walter worked for many years in professional library associations and working groups. 1972–1978 he was press spokesman and 1974–1978 member of the association committee of the Association of German Librarians (VDB); from 1978 to 1982 on the board of the Association for Legal Library and Documentation ( AjBD ), from 1980 to 1982 as chairman. He promoted this association of legal librarians and documentaries through committed association work. From 1992–1995 he was a board member of the International Association of Law Libraries (IALL), the international association of legal libraries. In 1990 he was a visiting librarian at Yale Law Library (Law Library of Yale University ) in the United States , where he worked at the International Law Section of (Department of International Law).

In 1972 he married Gudrun Walter-Lorenz (1938–2010), who was a specialist in Romance studies at the State Library . In 2002 he retired.
