The 1982/83 season was the 44th season of the 1st divisjon , the highest Norwegian ice hockey division . Furuset IF became champion for the sixth time in the club's history . Hasle-Løren Idrettslag was relegated to the second division.

In the main round, each of the ten teams played a total of 36 games. The four best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played out. The last placed in the main round rose directly to the second division, while the penultimate had to compete in the relegation against the runner-up in the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
