The 2005/06 season was the 67th season of the UPC leagues , the highest Norwegian ice hockey division . Champion was Vålerenga Ishockey for the 24th time in the club's history . Manglerud Star Ishockey was relegated to the second division.

In the main round, each of the ten teams played a total of 42 games. The eight best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played out. The last two placed had to compete in the relegation against the first two placed in the second division. Each team received three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win after overtime, one point for a loss after overtime and zero points for a loss after regular time.
