Ruben Smith (born April 15, 1987 in Stavanger ) is a Norwegian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Stavanger Oilers in the Norwegian GET league since January 2011 .

Career

Smith started his career with Viking / Siddis in his hometown and later moved to the youth teams of Storhamar IK . During the 2005/06 season he made his debut in the GET-ligaen for the club's men's team, the Storhamar Dragons. Since then he has been a member of the Dragons' squad and has been their goalkeeper since 2007. In 2008 he was Norwegian champion with Storhamar and was also awarded as a playoff MVP .

In the summer of 2009 his contract expired and Ruben Smith decided to work in Finland with Jokijopat Joensuu in the second-class Mestis , but the transfer did not materialize. Therefore, Smith stayed with the Storhamar Dragons. For the 2010/11 season he finally signed with Rosenborg Ishockeyklubb . He left this in January 2011 and moved within the GET league to the Stavanger Oilers , with whom he was runner-up in the playoffs.

International

Ruben Smith played in various international tournaments for the junior national teams of Norway . He took part in the U20 Junior World Championship in 2006 and the U20 Junior B World Championship in 2007 .

In 2008 he was nominated for the Men's World Cup , where he played his first World Cup game, which was lost 9-1 to the USA. A year later he took part as a substitute goalkeeper in the men's World Cup, but was not used in any game. At the end of 2009 Smith was nominated for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver . With these he remained as a substitute goalkeeper without use. At the 2010 World Cup he was between the posts in two games, but was unable to convince with a catch rate of 69.7%.
