The 30th ice hockey world championships of the U20 juniors of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF were the ice hockey world championships of 2006 in the age group of the under-20s (U20). Between December 11, 2005 and January 16, 2006, a total of 39 national teams took part in the six tournaments of the top division and divisions I to III.

The world champion was for the twelfth time the team of Canada , who defeated arch-rivals Russia 5-0 in the final . The German team was able with the victory in Group A of Division I secure the direct promotion to the top division, Switzerland finished in seventh place in the top division. Austria was fifth in Group B of Division I and thus penultimate.

The U20 World Cup was held from December 26, 2005 to January 5, 2006 in the Canadian cities of Vancouver , Kelowna and Kamloops in the province of British Columbia . The game was played in GM Place (18,630 seats) and Pacific Coliseum (16,281 seats) in Vancouver as well as in Prospera Place in Kelowna with 6,886 seats and the Interior Savings Center in Kamloops with 5,658 seats.

Ten national teams took part in the tournament, playing in two groups of five teams each. Canada secured the world title, which clearly beat Russia 5-0 in the final. It was the twelfth title for the Canadians and the second in a row.

After the group matches in the preliminary round, the two group winners qualify directly for the semi-finals. The runners-up and thirds in the group each play a qualifying game for participation in the semi-finals. The fourth and fifth of the group games contest - if the result of the direct encounter from the preliminary round is taken with them - the relegation round and determine two relegated to Division I.
