Mikko Kristian Lehtonen (born April 1, 1987 in Espoo ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with Fehérvár AV19 in the EBEL since 2019 .
Career
Mikko Lehtonen began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth of the Espoo Blues , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 2003/04 season . He remained unpunished and punished in his only mission. In the following season, the attacker played again only in one game for the Blues in the SM-liiga and spent the rest of the time with their A-Juniors. He was then selected in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft in the third round as the 83rd player of the Boston Bruins . Initially, however, the right-handed shooter stayed in Finland, where he fought for a regular place with the Blues, with which he only failed in the finals for the championship at Kärpät Oulu in the 2007/08 season . At the same time, the former junior international played for the Finnish U20 national team from 2005 to 2007 in the second-rate Mestis .
In the summer of 2008, Lehtonen was called to North America by the Boston Bruins . There he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2008/09 season , in which he was only on the ice once. The rest of the season he spent in the Boston farm team , with the Providence Bruins from the American Hockey League , for which he scored a total of 53 points in 72 games.
In August 2010 Lehtonen was signed by Skellefteå AIK from the Elitserien . With this, the Finn reached the playoff finals of the Elitserien in the 2010/11 season , in which the team was defeated by Färjestad BK . During the regular season, Lehtonen had scored 30 goals and won the Håkan Loob Trophy as top scorer. In May 2011 he was signed by Severstal Tscherepowez from the Continental Hockey League . After playing 17 games with the ZSC Lions at the end of the 2012/13 season , he signed a two-year contract with the reigning Swiss champions SC Bern at the end of June 2013 . For the 2014/15 season, Lehtonen returned to Skellefteå AIK, but only stayed there for half a season before joining Örebro HK in January .
Other stations in his career were Djurgårdens IF , Kärpät Oulu and Hämeenlinnan Pallokerho (HPK) before he moved to KHL Medveščak Zagreb in the EBEL in January 2018 . There he suffered a protracted hand injury, returned to the ice for the Continental Cup tournament in Belfast in November 2018 , where he broke his leg and had to undergo another operation.
For the 2019/20 season, Lehtonen moved to Fehérvár AV19 within the EBEL .
