Andrew Sarauer (born November 17, 1984 in Saskatoon , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player with Hungarian citizenship who has been under contract with Fehérvár AV19 in the Austrian ice hockey league since 2018 .
Career
Andrew Sarauer began his career as a hockey player with Victoria Salsa, for which he was active from 2002 to 2003 in the Canadian junior league British Columbia Hockey League . In the following season he played for league rivals Langley Hornets. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the fourth round as a total of 125 players by the Vancouver Canucks , for which he never played. Instead, he played the next four years for the Northern Michigan Wildcats , the team from Northern Michigan University , in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association . He then played from 2008 to 2011 primarily in the ECHL for the Johnstown Chiefs and the Reading Royals , but was also used by the Lake Erie Monsters , the Norfolk Admirals and once each the Rockford IceHogs and the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League . In 2011 he first moved west across the pond and played one season for the Frederikshavn White Hawks in the Danish first division . After the 2012/13 season again in the ECHL with the Las Vegas Wranglers spent, he returned to Europe and plays since then with an interruption 2016/17, when he for the Villach SV was active for Alba Volán Székesfehérvár in the Austrian Ice Hockey League . In 2015 he was named top scorer of the ÖEHL.
International
In 2015, Sarauer received Hungarian citizenship and made his debut at the World Cup of the same year for the Hungarian national team , with which he was promoted to the top division by finishing second in the A group of Division I. As the top scorer - together with the Kazakhs Roman Startschenko , Kevin Dallman , Evgeni Rymarew , Wadim Krasnoslobodzew and Konstantin Rudenko - and as the best goal setter (together with his compatriot Frank Banham and the Kazakhs Talgat Schailauow ), he contributed significantly to the success. He was also named the best player on his team. At the 2016 World Cup , he then played in the top division, from which the Magyars were relegated immediately despite a 5-2 win against Belarus . He played again in Division I at the 2017 and 2018 World Championships . He also represented his new home in the Olympic qualification for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang .
