John Fredrik Michael Pettersson (born June 10, 1987 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Swiss club ZSC Lions in the National League since July 2017 .
Career
Fredrik Pettersson began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Frölunda HC , with whose U18 juniors he won the championship of the U18 junior Allsvenskan in 2003, 2004 and 2005, as well as with its U20 juniors during the season 2004/05 champion of the U20 junior SuperElit. Then the winger was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2005 in the fifth round as a total of 157 players by the Edmonton Oilers , for whom he never played. Instead, he ran from 2005 to 2007 for the Calgary Hitmen in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League .
From 2007 to 2010 Pettersson played for his hometown club Frölunda HC in the Swedish Elitserien . There he convinced with 44 goals and 46 assists in 184 games, so that on June 15, 2010 he was signed as a free agent by the Atlanta Thrashers from the National Hockey League . For the 2010/11 season , the Swede Atlanta's farm team , the Chicago Wolves from the American Hockey League , was assigned.
In July 2011 Pettersson returned again to Frölunda HC, where he signed a four-year contract. A year later, this contract was dissolved and Petterson moved to HK Donbass Donetsk , for which he was active in the KHL until October 2013 . In autumn 2013 he moved to HC Lugano in Switzerland . There he was one of the top performers in the following three seasons and advanced to the NLA top scorer in the 2014/15 season . At the end of the 2015/16 season, he used an exit clause and moved to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the KHL. There he moved to HK Dinamo Minsk after 24 games .
In the summer of 2017, he moved to the ZSC Lions , where he signed a contract for one year with the option for another.
International
For Sweden , Pettersson took part in the junior division at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2005 , in which he finished third with his team, as well as the U20 World Junior Championships in 2006 and 2007 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 2010 World Cup in Germany , where he won the bronze medal with Sweden. He also played numerous test matches for various Swedish junior national teams and the men's national team.
At the 2013 World Cup in Stockholm and Helsinki he was again part of the national team and won the gold medal with it.
