Severin Blindenbacher (born March 15, 1983 in Zurich ) is a Swiss ice hockey player . He is currently under contract with the ZSC Lions in the Swiss National League A.

Career

Blindenbacher played for Kloten Flyers before moving to his hometown in 2005 . He had already played there as a junior and made his professional debut in the National League A in the 2000/01 season . During his time in Kloten he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2001 in the ninth round in 273rd position by the Phoenix Coyotes . With the ZSC Lions he won the Swiss championship title in 2008 and the Champions Hockey League in 2009 . From summer 2009 he played for the reigning Swedish champions Färjestad BK in the Elitserien .

For the 2010/11 season Blindenbacher went to North America and was signed by the Dallas Stars . After the training camp he was sent by the Stars to their farm team , the Texas Stars , in the American Hockey League . In February 2011, he ended his engagement in North America after the Dallas Stars put him on the waiver list, but the defender had not been selected by any of the teams. About a month later he signed a contract with the ZSC Lions, valid from the 2011/12 season.

International

In 2001 Blindenbacher took part in a major international tournament for the Swiss junior team for the first time, the U18 World Cup . He won the silver medal with the U18 selection. In the same year he also took part in the U20 World Cup. Further appearances in U20 world championships followed in 2002 and 2003 , before he became a member of the Swiss national ice hockey team in 2003 . With this he played the World Championships in 2003 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2009 and 2012 as well as the Olympic ice hockey tournaments in 2006 and 2010 .

At the 2013 World Cup in Stockholm and Helsinki he was again part of the national team and won the silver medal with it. In August 2016 he announced his resignation from the national team.
