Sven Leuenberger (born August 25, 1969 in Niederuzwil ) is a Swiss ice hockey official and former player who played for HC Lugano and SC Bern in the National League A during his active time from 1986 to 2003 . He was sports director of the SCB and was responsible for the club's strategic sports development. Since 2017 he has been the sports director of the ZSC Lions . His brother Lars and cousin Marc also played ice hockey professionally.

Career

Sven Leuenberger began his career as an ice hockey player at EHC Uzwil , for whose professional team he was active in the National League B from 1986 to 1988 . He then moved to SC Bern from the National League A , with which he became Swiss champions in 1989, 1991 and 1992 . From 1992 to 1994 the defender played for their league rivals HC Lugano before returning to Bern. In 1997, the left-handed shooter won the national championship again with the federal townspeople, before ending his career at the age of 33 following the 2002/03 season.

On April 5, 2006, Sven Leuenberger was introduced as head of sport and successor to Roberto Triulzi at SC Bern and held this position until November 2015, when his brother was appointed head coach of the SCB and Alex Chatelain became the new head of sport. Sven Leuenberger stayed at SCB and took on the task of “strategic sports development”.

In May 2017, the ZSC Lions announced his appointment as Head of Sports.

International

For Switzerland Leuenberger took part in the B world championships in 1994 , 1996 and 1997 , as well as the A world championships in 1991 , 1992 and 1993 . He was also in the Swiss squad for the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville and qualifying for the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano .
