A World Championship: April 26th to May 14th in Helsinki , Tampere and Turku ( Finland )
B World Cup: 12. April bis 21st April in Katowice ( Poland )
C World Cup: 22. March bis 28. March in Tallinn and Kohtla-Jarve ( Estonia )
D World Cup: 22. March bis 28. March in Canillo ( Andorra )
E World Cup: 19th February bis 24. February in Ankara ( Turkey )

A total of 39 teams took part in these world championships.

The 21st U20 Junior World Championship took place at the following locations:

Junior A World Championship: December 26, 1996 to January 5, 1997 in Geneva and Morges ( Switzerland )
Junior B World Championship: December 27, 1996 to January 5, 1997 in Kiev ( Ukraine )
Junior C World Championship: December 30, 1996 to January 3, 1997 in Bucharest ( Romania )
Junior D World Championship: December 30, 1996 to January 3, 1997 in Sofia ( Bulgaria ).

A total of 34 teams took part in these Junior World Championships.

The 4th Women's World Championship was held from March 31 to April 6, 1997 in Kitchener , Canada . Again eight teams took part in the tournament.
