Ice Hockey World Championship 2007

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In 2007, the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF hosted ice hockey world championships for the 71st time .

General mode changes

As part of the men's ice hockey world championship in 2006 in Riga , some changes were decided that will come into force in 2007. For the first time, the group division of the men's A World Championships was made according to the IIHF world rankings and not according to the lottery procedure, and nine instead of eight teams are playing at the women's A World Championship. The mode for women thus corresponds to that of the 2004 World Cup .

In addition, there will be 3 points for a win in the preliminary round games at the ice hockey world championships. If a preliminary round game is tied after 60 minutes of play, there is a five-minute extra time with four players per team and, if necessary, a penalty shoot- out.

The winner after extra time or penalty shootout receives 2 points ( noted as SV or S nV in the tables), the loser 1 point ( NV or N nV, in the table) for the tie after 60 minutes of play. A defeat after regular playing time scores 0 points. This means that there is no official indication of the negative points, as more positive than negative points can be awarded.
