Ice Hockey World Championship 2018

The 2018 Ice Hockey World Championships were held by the International Ice Hockey Federation in five different age and gender groups. A total of 28 tournaments were held in all divisions.

Tournament overview

Men's

The 82nd Men's Ice Hockey World Championship was held in Denmark . The venues were Copenhagen and Herning . The application Denmark prevailed against Latvia (with two stadiums in Riga ) with 95 to 12 votes. The award took place at the IIHF Congress during the 2014 Men's Ice Hockey World Championship .

Both countries had applied together to host the 2017 Ice Hockey World Championship . For Denmark it is the first ice hockey world championship. The Danes had also applied for the 2016 World Cup , but withdrew their application shortly before the vote. Latvia last hosted the World Cup in 2006 .

The 42nd U20 Junior Ice Hockey World Championship took place from December 26, 2017 to January 5, 2018 in Buffalo , United States .

Women

The Women 21 Ice Hockey World Championship was because of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang held in 2018 only in the Division IA to IIB and the qualification to the latter. The same thing happened in 2014, when world championship games were held for the first time in the year of an Olympic ice hockey tournament.
