history

In 1958, the first team was promoted to the first division , and a year later the ice rink was opened in Uzwil. In the 1967/68 season, the Uzwiler were for the first time Swiss amateur champions and rose to the NLB . A year later the descent took place. Two years later, in 1970, he was promoted to the NLB again.

In the 1971/72 season Uzwil even took part in the promotion games to the NLA , but did not manage the promotion and rose again a year later. In 1974, at the NLB promotion game against EV Zug , the club played in front of a home record crowd of over 4,000 spectators, but lost. The renewed promotion to the NLB succeeded in 1975 , but Uzwil rose again.

In 1983 the ice rink was roofed over and became the Uzehalle. During the construction work, the hall collapsed and buried several people under it (one death). The Uzehalle was extensively renovated in 1998.

In 1987 the club made it to the NLB for the last time. After three seasons in the NLB with reasonable sporting success (in the autumn of 1988 Uzwil was the table leader for several weeks) the EHC Uzwil had to relegate at the end of the 1989/90 season. The descent was accompanied by a mountain of debt. The club was consistently renovated in the 1990s under Presidents Albert Vincenz and Christian Weber. Since then, EHC Uzwil has played in the first division without interruption until the 2012/13 season .

In 2001, the EHC Uzwil became Swiss amateur champions for the second time, but had already renounced promotion to the NLB beforehand. The head coach from 2007 to 2013 was Roger Bader , who had already worked in Uzwil from 1994 to 2001. In 2013 the EHC was relegated to the 2nd division.

Season 2008/09 (1st League East): This preliminary round was finished 8th (out of 13 teams) with 32 points; in the qualification they managed to keep the league with 2 wins and 4 defeats, but slipped to 10th place.

Season 2009/10 (1st League East): As 6th (of 12 teams) with 34 points from 22 games they made it into the playoff. There, the EHC Uzwil lost against the EHC Dübendorf, who were first classified after the main round, with 0: 6.

Season 2010/11 (1st League East): With 27 points from 22 games, the season ended in 7th place (out of 12). In the qualifying round 3 wins from 5 games, so that the league could be secured without participating in the relegation round.

Season 2014/15 (2. Liga Ost / 2): At the end of the season, EHC Uzwil was 10th (out of 12 teams), with 24 points from 22 games. There were only 2 points missing to a playoff place, and with 10th place you did not have to participate in the relegation round.

Season 2015/16 (2nd league east / 2): This season ended in 3rd place (out of 10 teams) with 34 points from 18 games. While HC Prättigau-Herrschaft (1st) and SC Herisau (2nd) were able to climb directly into the 1st division, EHC Uzwil was invited to the "Green Table" for promotion. As of 2016, the coach Petr Rosol , the sports director Jan Fiala , was the father of Kevin Fiala .

Season 2016/17 (1st league east): After this promotion to the 1st league, no powerful team could be formed, which is why this season was only finished in 10th place (of 11 teams). They had only scored 6 points from 30 games, only the Derby neighbor EC Wil was even weaker with 5 points.

Season 2017/18 (1st League East): This season there was a little more success, but at the end of the season they were 9th (out of 10 teams). With 23 points from 27 games they missed the playoff with 7 points behind in 8th place. A relegation round did not take place because a new group division was planned by the association for the coming season.

Season 2018/19 (1st League East): 36 points were scored from 27 games, but in the end it was only enough for 9th place (out of 12 teams). The team missed the playoff place by 2 points. The subsequent round of relegation was no longer relevant, as the Red Lions Reinach had already been relegated with only 6 points. After the end of the season (beginning of April 2019), the EHC Uzwil board announced that due to the current debt burden of CHF 300,000, it was not possible to form a competitive team for the coming season in the first division. That is why it was decided to voluntarily withdraw from the 1st division and only play in the 3rd division with one team in 2019/2020. A future rise will depend on the development in your own junior division.

Season 2019/20 (3rd League East / 4): On September 21, 2019, EHC Uzwil played a home game in the 3rd division for the first time in its history, which ended victoriously 4-2 against EHC Flims. The regular season was successfully concluded with 37 points from 18 games as the leader of the table (1st of 10 teams). In the first round of the playoffs, the EHC Uzwil then failed with two very narrow defeats (each in overtime) at EHC Wilen-Neunform.
