Roger Bader (born September 29, 1964 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss ice hockey coach . He has been Austria's national coach since October 2016.

Coaching career

Bader played ice hockey in the first division , the highest amateur league at the time, in his hometown at EHC Winterthur , before moving to EHC Bassersdorf. He learned to be a mechanical engineer. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Bader was an assistant coach on the staff of Zürcher SC , initially in National League B , but then in 1989 in National League A (NLA). In 1993 he moved to SC Luzern as a manager for a year and then took over the post of head coach at the 1st league club EHC Uzwil in 1994 . During his activity in Uzwil, which lasted until 2001, Bader was also active as a coach in the club's youth department and also took on coaching activities for Swiss youth national teams.

In 2001 he switched to Kloten Flyers , where Bader worked as an assistant trainer for the men's team in the NLA and in the junior division. He was also a member of the coaching staff of the Swiss Ice Hockey Association and was responsible for various youth national teams as a coach.

Bader left Kloten in 2005 and joined HC Friborg-Gottéron , where he also worked as an assistant coach and also worked in youth training. Between 2007 and spring 2013 he was again in the service of EHC Uzwil, whose 1st division team he led as head coach until he was released due to relegation to the 2nd division. In addition, he was responsible for the overall sporting management of the club. In the meantime, he made a brief guest appearance as assistant coach for SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in the 2009/10 season .

After leaving Uzwil, Bader worked in various positions for the Austrian ice hockey association from 2014 : he worked conceptually as head of training and development, supervised national youth teams as head coach and was also part of the senior national team's coaching staff at times as an assistant.

In October 2016, Bader was initially employed on an interim basis as head of the Austrian men's national team . In April 2017, he and the team made it to the A group at the B-World Cup, in the following month his contract as national coach was extended and he also took over the sporting management of all national teams in Austria.
