The 1971/72 season was the 25th regular staging of the National League B , the second highest Swiss league in ice hockey . The NLB champions SC Bern went straight into the National League A in. The EHC Chur and the SC Luzern rose in the third-highest division, the first league from.

mode

The league was divided into two groups. The eight best placed teams qualified for the final round, the winners of which were promoted directly to the NLA. The remaining eight teams contested a relegation round, the last two of which were relegated directly to the third division. Each team received two points for a win and one point for a tie. If you lost, you didn't get any points.
