The 1989/90 season was the 43rd regular staging of the National League B , the second highest Swiss league in ice hockey . The four best-placed teams qualified for the NLA relegation , in which HC Martigny prevailed and made the promotion. The HC Davos and EHC Uzwil went directly to the third-highest division, the first league from.

In the main round, each of the ten teams played 36 games. The four best placed teams qualified for the NLA relegation. The remaining six teams had to compete in a relegation round, the last two of which were relegated directly to the third division. The points from the main round were transferred to the relegation round. Each team received two points for a win and one point for a tie. If you lost, you didn't get any points.
