The 1990/91 season was the 44th regular staging of the National League B , the second highest Swiss league in ice hockey . The four best placed teams qualified for the NLA relegation , in which the EHC Chur prevailed and achieved promotion. The SC Langnau and the Genève-Servette HC went straight to the third highest division, the first division.

In the main round, each of the ten teams played 36 games. The four best placed teams qualified for the NLA relegation. The remaining six teams had to compete in a relegation round, the last two of which were relegated directly to the third division. The points from the main round were transferred to the relegation round. Each team received two points for a win and one point for a tie. If you lost, you didn't get any points.
