Reigning Swiss B champions were EHC Biel , who missed promotion because the team lost 4-1 in the league qualification against the SCL Tigers . The HC Neuchâtel Young Sprinters were promoted to the NLB and were the only participants in the finals of the 1st division to apply for promotion.

The 13 teams played two double rounds of 22 games each, as well as one game against the Swiss U20 national team. Then the best eight teams determined the Swiss B champions in play-off style, with the first four teams in the table being able to choose a quarter-final opponent. Quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final were each played according to the best-of-seven mode .
The winner of the final played a relegation in best-of-seven against the loser of the NLA play-outs .

Play-offs
For the quarter-finals, the four best-ranked clubs were allowed to choose an opponent from places 5-8 in the table for the first time in the history of the NLB. From February 9, 2007, the following teams fought in the Best of Seven mode for a place in the semi-finals.
Quarter finals
SC Langenthal - GCK Lions 2: 4
(3: 7; 1: 4; 2: 4; 4: 3 n.V .; 3: 1; 2: 3)
- A classic false start for SC Langenthal against the Junglions, who acted more lively and with a lot of joy in the first two encounters. Match winner of the first encounter was Mike Richard with two shorthanded goals and Claudio Cadonau with two goals as well. At the SCL coach Mike Posma was dismissed due to the bad start and replaced by Gary Prior , who last coached EHC Munich . But they also lost the first game under the new coach, so that the SCL has their backs against the wall before the fourth game. The SCL was able to win the following two games, initially just in overtime in the fourth game and with three power play goals in the first third of the fifth game. In the sixth game in the series, the GCK narrowly defeated the SCL - the GCK is now in the semi-finals. At SC Langenthal then Gary Prior resigned.
EHC Biel - HC Ajoie 4: 2

- Two wins at the beginning of the playoffs for Biel, but after a tough fight. In the first game, Alexandre Tremblay stood out with three goals for the EHC. In the third game, Ajoie was able to convert a 4-2 deficit in the last third into a victory with four goals, while James Desmarais showed a best performance with three goals and two assists. Desmarais also showed his class in the fourth game with two goals and one assist - Ajoie won 4-2. In the fifth game, however, the EHC Biel showed its class and defeated u. a. thanks to a hat trick by Marco Truttmann, the HC won 9: 3. The sixth game had to be decided in the penalty shootout, as Ajoie caught up in the third period from a 1: 3 deficit and no goals were scored in extra time.
EHC Visp - HC Sierre 4: 1
(4: 5; 4: 3; 5: 0; 7: 1; 6: 5)
- Lee Jinman and Derek Cormier secured HC Sierre's away win in the first quarter-final with two goals each. Visp won the third and fourth game 5-0 and 7-1 respectively. In game five, after a 5: 1 deficit in the final third, HC Sierre came up to 5: 5 (including two goals from Lee Jinman), but conceded the decisive sixth goal by Marco Schüpbach in the 57th minute of the game .
HC La Chaux-de-Fonds - HC Lausanne 2: 4

- After two wins by the favorite Chaux-de-Fonds, HC Lausanne won the third game after extra time, while Julien Staudenmann was able to put himself in the limelight with two goals. Lausanne won games four and five, with Jesse Bélanger and Jean-Jacques Aeschlimann winning the match . In the sixth game of the series, the HC Lausanne was able to win through a closed team performance and moves into the semi-finals as eighth in the preliminary round.
Semi-final
In the semi-finals 2006/07, the second against the eighth of the preliminary round and the third against the seventh.
EHC Biel - HC Lausanne 4: 1

- In a close first game, the EHC Biel can prevail against Lausanne. Overtime in the second game secures the profit for the EHCB when Alexandre Tremblay scores the decisive goal after 2:39 minutes played. In a third game with many goals, Bieler u. a. with two goals each from Mauro Beccarelli and Alain Miéville the upper hand over the LHC. The second block of Lausanne HC with Roman Botta, Jean-Jacques Aeschlimann and Florian Conz determined the game of the fourth game significantly - Florian Conz scored the decisive 5: 4 11 minutes before the end of the game. On the EHCB side, Alexandre Tremblay stood out again with two goals. The fifth game in the series brought the decision in favor of the EHC Biel: two goals each from Cyrill Pasche and Mathieu Tschantré and a solid team performance brought the EHCB to victory, while the season is over for the LHC.
EHC Visp - GCK Lions 4: 1

- In the first game of the series, the EHC wins a mediocre game 3-1. The GCK Lions also lose the second semi-final, but the Zurich team gave away the possible victory in the last third after a 3-1 lead due to too many penalties. The equalizer fell eleven minutes before the end when Visp was twice outnumbered. The winning goal in extra time resulted from a bad pass by a GCK Lions player, which Luca Triulzi was able to take advantage of. A goal by EHC Visp per third and an outstanding junior national goalkeeper Raffael Walter with his second shutout of the playoffs gave the GCK Lions no chance to make the series exciting again in game three. What did not succeed in game number three followed in the fourth game: two goals by Marco Gruber and a sure Leonardo Genoni in the goal of the Lions brought the first victory in the semifinals. But in game number five the Lions in Visp led 3-2 up to 94 seconds before the end, but then had to accept the equalizer and finally lost the game after 62:50 minutes with a goal from Terry Yake in extra time. Visp wins the series with 4-1 victories and meets EHC Biel in the final for the NLB champions.
Final
In the final of the 2006/07 season, last year's champions EHC Biel and the third of the preliminary round, EHC Visp, meet - whoever wins four wins first becomes the NLB master and goes into the relegation games against the loser of the NLA playouts. The Bielers strengthened themselves for the final and the relegation with Marek Pinc , Jiří Šlégr , Serge Aubin , Nicholas Naumenko , Kirby Law and Eero Somervuori . In return, EHC Visp signed the duo Lee Jinman and Derek Cormier from league rivals Sierre and the Finn Ari Vallin from the Frölunda Indians .
EHC Biel - EHC Visp 4: 2

- In a high-scoring first game of the final, the Biel team won due to a brilliant offensive performance, which the Visper could not oppose enough. Outstanding players on the Biel side were Kirby Law and Alexandre Tremblay with two goals each, while Anthony Iob also shone with two goals on the Visper side . EHC Visp was able to win the second game through an efficient power play game and a team effort. Kevin Lötscher shone for Visp and Kirby Law for Biel with two goals each. In the third game, the foreign players of the EHC Biel again showed their skills, especially Serge Aubin and Jiří Šlégr , and defeated the Visper 5-2. The fourth game was marked by many mistakes on both sides - in an intensely played game, EHC Visp won in extra time with a goal from Thomas Rüfenacht to the end result of 6: 5. On the Biel side, Kirby Law scored a hat trick .
- EHC Biel clearly defeated EHC Visp 6: 3 in the fifth final game in their home ice rink in front of 4586 spectators. The decisive factor for the Biel win were again the new purchases for the playoff final: Serge Aubin (two goals) and Kirby Law messed up the Visp defenses and ensured a 4-1 lead in the second period. The sixth game was only decided in extra time in favor of Biel, but initially Visp took a 2-1 lead through Lee Jinman and Silvan Lüssy . Serge Aubin equalized in the second period (assisted by Kirby Law) before Alexandre Tremblay made the decision in the 13th minute of extra time. EHC Biel is thus defending its NLB championship title and is in the relegation for promotion to the NLA against SC Langnau .

Play-outs
No play-outs will be played in the 2006/2007 season, as the league is to be increased. This ends the season for the last four teams, there is no relegation. Clubs from the 1st league can apply for promotion. The Young Sprinters Hockey Club from Neuchâtel was the only team to respond to the application in 2006/2007 . The requirement for the Young Sprinters was to reach the final in the first division playoff, which was also successful. The club was promoted to the National League B.
League qualification
The winner of the NLB play-offs, the EHC Biel , plays against the loser of the NLA playouts, the SCL Tigers , relegation games for promotion to the NLA in the best of seven mode.
