Kirby Law (* 11. February 1977 in McReary , Manitoba ) is a Canadian ice hockey player , who most recently for HC Ambri-Piotta in the Swiss National League A played.
Career
Kirby Law learned how to handle pucks and sticks in his hometown with the McReary BigMacs , at the age of 15 he played for the Dauphin Kings in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League . He continued his junior career from 1993 in the Western Hockey League with the Saskatoon Blades . Two years later he moved within the league to the Lethbridge Hurricanes , where he played for three years. In early September 1997, the Hurricanes exchanged him for Jason Boyd of the Brandon Wheat Kings , but after a year he signed a contract as a free agent with the Orlando Solar Bears in the International Hockey League , as he did not enter the NHL despite good performance in the WHL Draft was taken into account.
At the beginning of the following season, the Atlanta Thrashers signed him and put him on their farm team , the Louisville Panthers , in the American Hockey League . In an exchange deal with the Philadelphia Flyers , who in return ceded two draft picks to Atlanta, Kirby Law was sent to the Flyers' farm team, the Philadelphia Phantoms .
In the following years he played mainly with the Phantoms, but came to a total of nine NHL games. In the summer of 2004 he was finally hired by the Minnesota Wild as a free agent, but he also played in the organization of the Wild exclusively in their farm team, the Houston Eros . In the 2005/06 season he was top scorer of the AHL with 110 points (43 goals, 67 assists ) and consequently elected to the AHL First All-Star Team .
Since he did not get a regular place in the Wild's NHL squad despite his good performance in the AHL, Law moved to the Swiss NLA representative HC Servette Genève at the beginning of the 2006/07 season and signed a two-year contract. Since Servette was eliminated in the first round of the NLA playoffs, he moved together with Serge Aubin on loan to the NLB to support the EHC Biel in the playoff finals and in possible relegation games.
After he had started the 2008/09 season at Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk in the Continental Hockey League , he was committed in October 2008 by Friborg-Gottéron and signed a contract until the end of the season. After the contract expired, he moved to HC Ambrì-Piotta .
