Kevin Lötscher (born February 17, 1988 in Visp ) is a former Swiss ice hockey player . About three years after he was the victim of a serious traffic accident, he retired from his active career in February 2014 at the age of 25 after continuing to suffer from the consequences of the accident. His father Martin Lötscher was also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Kevin Lötscher began his career as an ice hockey player in his home town of Leuk in the junior team of the local ice hockey clubs HC Leukergrund, EHC Leukerbad and HC Sierre, before he switched to the SCL Young Tigers in the SCL Tigers junior organization . There he scored 14 goals in 14 games and played his first eight games in the National League A with the SCL Tigers. At the same time, he played in the National League B for the Swiss U20 national ice hockey team .

After a detour to the first team of the EHC Visp in the 2006/07 season, he returned to the Swiss U20 national ice hockey team. For the 2007/08 season he was transferred to Lausanne HC in the canton of Vaud . There he scored 12 goals in 34 games and contributed 16 assists. After a long courtship for the tall winger, HC Sierre signed him from the French-speaking part of Valais for the 2008/09 season, in which he scored 30 goals and contributed 29 assists.

In 2009 he was signed by the EHC Biel. With the decisive goal to 3-2 in the league qualification against NLB champions Lausanne HC, he secured the league for his club in the 2009/10 season in front of a home crowd. In December 2010, the striker signed a two-year contract with SC Bern , valid from the 2011/12 season .

accident

Lötscher was hit by a car in Sierre on May 14, 2011 and was seriously injured. The 19-year-old driver involved in an accident had 1.56 per thousand alcohol in her blood. Since this accident, Lötscher has not played an official ice hockey game for Switzerland.

Due to his accident in May 2011, he could no longer play a game for SC Bern. He played regularly on loan for the National League B club HC Sierre in the 2012/13 season and finished the season there. Over the entire season, Lötscher made 50 second division appearances, in which he scored three goals and prepared another eight. In January 2013 it was announced that SC Bern would not extend the contract.

Since Kevin Lötscher's contract with SC Bern expired, he had to look for a new club. The EHC Biel offered him a contract for the 2013/14 season. There he only made three appearances in the top Swiss league and was immediately awarded to the NLB club HC Ajoie in December 2013 . At the club from Pruntrut , he was able to complete 14 league games before he announced his final career end as an active player in February 2014 at the age of 25.

International

For Switzerland , Lötscher took part in the U18 Junior B World Championship in 2006 , the U20 Junior World Championship in 2007 and 2008 and in the A World Championship in 2011 . At the U18 B World Cup, he and his team were promoted to the A World Cup. In total, he played 17 junior internationals for his country in international tournaments, in which he scored three goals and made eight assists. For the 2011 World Cup, he was in the senior national team's squad for the first time in an international tournament and scored two goals in the last game of the Swiss against the United States to a 5-3 win, which was not enough for a place in the quarter-finals.
