Swiss U20 national ice hockey team

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss U20 national ice hockey team is the national team of the U20 juniors in Switzerland , which took part in the National League B as a visiting team between 2006 and 2009 .

NLB participation

Participation in the game operation of a professional league should prepare the junior players for the annual world championships and improve the understanding of the game between the individual attacking formations. As a result, each NLB team received an additional home game from 2006 and the U20 team had the opportunity to compete against men's teams themselves. This model, which has already been used in Finnish ice hockey and also in Swiss handball, was introduced into the league planning by the SEHV due to the positive feedback from Finland and was found to be good by most of the NLB clubs.

Many junior players receive little ice age from their NLA clubs and are therefore mostly used in the unbalanced Elite A junior league, some also in the NLB. The main focus and benefit of participating in the NLB will therefore be on those supplementary players, and not necessarily on the regular players. In this way, the players can grow together into a team in the months before the start of the World Cup and get used to a higher game pace.

In June 2009 the shareholders' meeting of Swiss Icehockey decided that the Swiss U20 national ice hockey team would no longer take part in the NLB as a visiting team.

U20 World Cup 2008

At the U20 World Cup in 2008, which was held in the Czech Pardubice and Liberec , the Swiss U20 selection could only win their last game in the relegation round against newly promoted Denmark. Due to previous defeats against fellow competitors Slovakia and Kazakhstan, she was relegated to Division I.

U20 World Cup 2007

After the preparation in the NLB, the team met the U20 representatives from Russia , Finland , the Czech Republic and Belarus in the preliminary round of the tournament . With a win against the Belarusians and three defeats, they only reached fourth place in the group B table. As a result, the selection missed the quarter-finals, but was able to defeat both the German and the Slovak U20 national team in the relegation round. Switzerland played in the A group of the U20 World Cup in 2008 .
