The Serbian U20 national team has its origins in the Yugoslav U20 national ice hockey team , which represented the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia at the international level between 1981 and 1992 . After a three-year break and the breakaway of Slovenia and Croatia, the team of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia took their place . With the adoption of the new constitution and renaming to the international community of Serbia and Montenegro , it replaced the Yugoslav team as the Serbian-Montenegrin U20 national ice hockey team in 2003 .

From the split of Montenegro in the summer of 2006, the Serbian U20 team emerged, which took the place of the Serbian-Montenegrin team. Meanwhile, Montenegro did not continue its ice hockey program with the U20 juniors. With the start of the U20 Junior World Championship in 2007 in December 2006, the Serbian team played in Division II, but rose from this. In the following year he was directly promoted to second place in Division III, also in 2011 .
