NGC 1081 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Eridanus at the southern sky . It is estimated to be 177 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years across. The galaxy is considered a member of the four galaxies counting NGC 1103 group ( LGG 76 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1075 , NGC 1083 , NGC 1089 , NGC 1105 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on September 29, 1886 .
