NGC 1086 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Perseus on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 186 million light years from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years across. Together with three other galaxies, it forms the NGC 1086 group ( LGG 78 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 258 and IC 259 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on August 20, 1885 .
