NGC 1104 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 291 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 100,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1094 , IC 263 , IC 264 , IC 1856 .
The object was discovered on November 6, 1864 by the astronomer Heinrich d'Arrest .
