NGC 1091 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is an estimated 392 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 105,000 light years in diameter. It probably forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair with NGC 1092 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1098 , NGC 1099 , NGC 1100 , NGC 1119 .
The property was discovered by Francis Preserved Leavenworth on October 17, 1885 .
