NGC 1070 is a spiral galaxy Sb in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 184 million light years from the Milky Way and about 125,000 light years in diameter.
The type IIb supernova SN 2008ie was observed here.
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on December 13, 1784 .
