NGC 1058 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble-type Sc in the constellation Perseus in the northern sky . It is an estimated 28 million light years away from the Milky Way , has a diameter of about 20,000 ly and is listed as a Seyfert 2 galaxy . The galaxy is considered a member of the NGC 1023 group.

The supernovae SN 1961V (Type-IIP) and SN 1969L (Type-IIP) were observed here.

The object was discovered by William Herschel on January 17, 1787 .
