NGC 1044 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is around 286 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 40,000 light years. The galaxy forms an interacting galaxy pair with PGC 3080165 , which in turn acts gravitationally with NGC 1046 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on November 7, 1784 .
