NGC 1043 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Cetus south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 309 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 80,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 1032 , NGC 1038 , NGC 1073 , IC 1827 , among others .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on October 2, 1886 .
