NGC 1052 is an elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type E4 in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 67 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years across. Together with NGC 1035 and NGC 1042 , it forms the galaxy triplet KTS 18 .
The object was discovered on January 10, 1785 by William Herschel .
