NGC 1047 is a lenticular dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a pec in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is around 59 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 20,000 light years.
The galaxies NGC 1035 , NGC 1042 and NGC 1052 are in the same region of the sky and probably form a group of galaxies .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on November 10, 1885 .
