NGC 1069 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble-type Sc in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 425 million light years from the Milky Way and about 175,000 light years across. In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1047 , NGC 1048 , NGC 1052 , NGC 1071 .

The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on September 29, 1886 .
