NGC 1089 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E1 in the constellation Eridanus the southern sky . It is estimated to be 360 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 95,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 1076 , NGC 1081 , NGC 1083 , NGC 1105 , among others .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on September 29, 1886 .
