NGC 1080 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 350 million light years from the Milky Way and about 115,000 light years in diameter.
The supernova SN 2009I was observed here.
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on October 21, 1886 .
