NGC 1102 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble-type SBb with extensive star formation areas in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is an estimated 492 million light years from the Milky Way and about 115,000 light years in diameter.
The property was discovered by Francis Preserved Leavenworth in 1886 .
